Brazilian Cherry
Botanical Name: Hymenaea sp. leguminosae
Similar names and species:
Many Hymenaea trees are known commercially as Jatobá, Jataí and Jutaí. The most
important species are H. stilbocarpa e the H. courbaril.

Characteristics of the Wood:
Reddish brown coloration, uniform or with streaks. Thick,
white-yellowish sapwood. Little shine surface, texture medium to rough.
Interlocked grain. Indistinctly taste and odor.
Physical and Mechanical Properties:
Jatobá can be classified as of high specific weight, low
retractability and high shock resistance.
Moisture Content and Density:
Apparent (15% of humidity): 0,97 g/cm3 - 970 kg/m3.
Workability:
Difficult to moderately easy to work, sawn, glue, screwed and nailed without
much problems.. Pleasant finishing. Accepts painting, varnish and luster.
Usage:
External constructions (hydraulical workmanships, posts and beams),heavy
construction, laminates, furniture and tool handles.
Agricultural appliances, truck and wagons bodies, sleepers,
crosspieces and general construction. |
